Upper School Parents

Theatre Arts

Our school’s commitment to theatre comes alive in the classroom as well as on stage in our new Arts & Athletics Center. From pre-school through 12th grade, students have scheduled theater classes in addition to having opportunities to try out for our major theater productions. We also offer broadway show choir for pre-school through 4th grades students. From Shakespear to Improv, students of all ages love to explore their inner spirit and share their creativity with their friends and school families.

Lower School Theatre Arts

Studying theatre helps children of all ages learn about life and what it means to be human. At Davidson Day this process begins in Lower School, where young students role-play and re-enact stories as an engaging way to bring literature to life. We use music, movement, puppetry, story theatre, character development –- and we even add a touch of Shakespeare –- to help children begin a lifetime of theatre appreciation.

Middle School Theatre Arts

In our Middle School theatre classes, we build on the skills developed in lower grades, and we start putting greater emphasis on reading, writing, and performing scripts. We even begin to create original theatre pieces. Students learn the basics of mastering monologues, auditions, and scene exploration. With each rehearsal and performance, they gain self-confidence and uncover special talents they never knew they had.

Upper School Theatre Arts

Acting. Expressing. Connecting. Critiquing. Playwriting. Performing. Our Upper School theatre classes at Davidson Day School involve all those things and more. In grades 9 through 12, we strengthen the techniques and fundamental skills established in previous grades. At the same time, we begin a more intense exploration of theatre as a creative and deeply personal form of expression. The highlight of the year: Students work together to create and perform an original theatre piece, which is a great source of pride for them and the entire school.
